Revision as of 01:05, 30 March 2017

If you have been granted access to the new MedNet SSLVPN system, use the following instructions to set up your Mac to use sslvpn, or check out the official instructions linked to at the bottom of this page.

Installation of Cisco AnyConnect

  1. Use your favorite web browser to navigate to [https://sslvpn.mednet.ucla.edu]
  2. At the screen that appears, enter your MedNet credentials.
  3. On the left hand side of the screen, there is a menu. Click on the "AnyConnect" option.
  4. In the new pane that appears, click on the "Start AnyConnect" link.
Please note that Java must be installed and enabled in your web browser. In Safari, there is a checkbox under the "Security" tab of the Preferences window.
  5. A system window will pop up asking for permission to allow an applet to run. If it says the digital signature has been verified, it should be ok to click Allow and proceed with the installation.
  6. The Java applet will run and you will see another system window pop up saying it is downloading the required files.
  7. You will be prompted for your password to finally install the AnyConnect program. Punch in your password and let the installation complete.
  8. AnyConnect will automatically start and log you in, quit out of the program for now. If you are already using another VPN (say the UCLA one), an error window about being "unable to modify the IP forwarding table" may result instead. This is normal because it is trying to log you into the vpn when you already have another connection going.
  9. Back in your web browser, click on the "Logout" link at the top right of the window and close your browser window.
  10. Cisco AnyConnect is now installed and ready for use. Use the instructions in the next section for normal use of the program.

Cisco AnyConnect Usage

  1. Find the program (it will be installed under "Applications > Cisco > Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client"), and start it up.
  2. In the box next to "Connect to:" should be the text sslvpn.mednet.ucla.edu, if it is different, replace it with this address.
  3. Press the select button and the window should now ask for your username and password. Supply your MedNet credentials and click "Connect."
  4. The window should minimize once the connection is established and a little AnyConect icon in the top information bar should appear with a lock on it indicating that you have a VPN connection.
  5. At this point you'll be able to connect to our local resources (like the Monster servers) and it will be like your computer is running within MedNet.
  6. When you are done with your VPN session, click on the icon in the information bar and select "Disconnect" from the menu that appears.
