Framewise Integrated Real-time MRI Monitoring (FIRMM)

Tablet FIRMM

FIRMM can track bold EPI and volume navigator (vNav) T1 and T2 sequences (DTI coming soon).
Make sure Advanced User mode is enabled - You will know it is if the MARS_SSH shortcut is visible on the start menu.

  • Register a subject on the scanner (normal procedure).
  • Open up the Windows start menu (CTRL+ESC).
  • Right click on the 'FIRMM start one patient' towards the top of the menu and click open.
    • A pop-up will appear asking whether this file is secure, select 'Run'.
  • A new pop-up will appear that has a large 'CONNECTED' message.
  • Start your scan and participant motion metrics will appear on the FMRI and T1/T2 tabs (if using vNav structural).

Research FIRMM

Make sure Advanced User mode is enabled - You will know it is if the MARS_SSH shortcut is visible on the start menu.

FIRMM Instructions:

  1. Press CTRL+ESC on console --> STOP FIRMM Session
  2. Register your participant.
  3. Press CTRL+ESC on console --> START FIRMM Session
  4. Close out of terminal and X11 on the iMac.
    • Go to "XQuartz" or "Terminal" menu at the top left of the screen, then scroll down and click "Quit"
  5. Double click "FIRMM.command" icon on desktop. This should open up the terminal.
  6. Type FIRMM into command line and press Enter.
  7. Terminal should start spitting out lines, X11 should open up and you should see a message on the terminal window that says "Waiting for DICOMs..."
  8. Click on the Start button on the X11 FIRMM application window.
  9. When your functional scan starts, volumes should start appearing after ~45sec delay
